JMS October News

October 2025

A Note From The Principal:

The 2025-2026 school year is off and running, and what a great start it has been! I hope you and your family are enjoying the crisp fall air and all the excitement this season brings. We are already a quarter of the way through the school year, and I’m proud to say things are going smoothly at Jenks Middle School.

Thank you to all who joined us for Back to School Night earlier this semester. It was wonderful to see so many families connecting with teachers and staff. I’d also like to give a big shout-out to our PTAG for their continued support as we get ready for one of our favorite traditions: the annual Smashdown dodgeball tournament! Next week, we anticipate another spirited matchup between our students and teachers, and no matter who takes home bragging rights, it’s sure to be a day full of fun and Trojan pride.

As you can see, JMS is not only a place where our students grow academically, but also where they get to laugh, compete, and make lasting memories. October is shaping up to be another busy month, and I’m looking forward to the great things ahead.

Enjoy the season, and as always - Go Trojans!

Nurse's Corner

Greetings from the JMS Nurse Clinic!

Does your student need to take any medications during the school day? Please fill out this Request to Give Medication form, sign and bring to the JMS Nurse Clinic with the medication in its original container with a current prescription label. Per JPS policy (p. 56), all prescription and over-the-counter medications must be administered by the nurse clinic. Students are not permitted to carry any of these medications on them during the school day. As an exception, students who are authorized by their physician to carry their asthma inhaler, epinephrine autoinjector, or diabetes supplies can do so when the authorization is submitted to the JMS Nurse Clinic. Do you have any questions? Please feel free to call us at 918-299-4415 x5426.

Health & Wellness Update

We are excited to announce our Annual Health & Wellness Week coming up November 17-21 at Jenks Middle School.

This year, our theme is Social Health, and we’re calling it “Kindness Week.” Together, we’ll focus on ways to build stronger connections, practice kindness, and support each other’s well-being. More details will be shared soon.

As we prepare for Kindness Week, we also want to encourage physical health. We invite students, parents, and staff to participate in the Jenks Half & 5K on Saturday, November 8.

Whether you’re ready for the half marathon or prefer the 5K run/walk, we’d love to see a big turnout from our school family. Let’s get active, support one another, and have fun together!

Fall Conference Information

We will be hosting parent teacher conferences Tuesday, October 2 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, October 9 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Team leaders have finished the process of reaching out to parents of students who need additional support, and a conference is warranted. Teachers who still have open time slots have sent out information regarding conference sign up procedures. Please keep in mind that our teachers have approximately 140 students and conferencing with every student family is impossible. If you desire to conference and you do not have an opportunity to meet with a teacher during the set aside conference evenings, please reach out to a teacher to schedule an alternate appointment.

Flu Shot Clinic

On Wednesday, October 8th, the Oklahoma Caring Van will provide free flu immunizations for Jenks Middle School students who are Native American, Pacific Islander, insured with Soonercare, or not covered under private insurance. If your child qualifies and you would like them to receive the immunization here at school, please contact the nurse's office by Tuesday, October 7th. The Nurse is Heather Hoffhines at heather.hoffhines@jenksps.org or 918-299-4415 ext. 5426.

Food for Thought

One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is not solving all their problems, but teaching them how to solve problems on their own. While it’s natural for parents to want to step in, doing so can take away opportunities for children to build resilience, confidence, and independence. Struggle matters because it teaches perseverance, builds self-confidence, and prepares them for life’s challenges.

Instead of fixing problems, parents can pause and ask guiding questions like, “What do you think you should try first?” Normalizing struggle shows children that mistakes are part of learning. Offering support, not solutions, and celebrating effort over outcomes helps kids grow stronger. Our goal is not to clear the path, but to equip them with the tools to climb over obstacles. Struggle builds strength and strength leads to success.

Halloween

Halloweeen

We are excited to celebrate Halloween with our students this year. Students are welcome to wear costumes on Halloween with a few restrictions. All costumes must adhere to the JMS dress code. While we will not allow Halloween masks, students are allowed to wear face paint. Thank you for helping us celebrate this fun day!.
