Book Character

Book Character Dress Up Day- On Thursday, October 31, students may choose a favorite Book Character and dress up as that character on this day. Students will bring a book that matches their character also. Please follow the school dress code policy, have regular shoes for outdoors, and we are asking for no scary characters.

Emergency Infant Services Family Volunteer Opportunity- One area of focus at our site is teaching our students about taking action in our community. One of the ways we can do this is through service. We will be offering different opportunities throughout the year for families to volunteer. Our first volunteer opportunity will be at Emergency Infant Services (1110 S Denver Ave., Tulsa, OK 74119) on November 2 from 10-1. If you would like to join this group of volunteers please sign up on the link provided. This is a family event, so please add any family members that will be joining. Children must be at least 5 years old. We are limited to 40 people.  Volunteer Opportunity

Picture Retakes- Picture retakes are scheduled for November 6. If your child was absent or you would like them to take a new picture please let their teacher know.

Picture Retake Day

Marvelous Moms- Our first Marvelous Moms group will be on Friday, November 22nd from 8:20-9:30 a.m. Marvelous Moms is an opportunity (like our Dynamic Dads) at Jenks West Elementary which encourages moms, stepmoms, grandmothers, aunts, guardians, etc. to play an active role in their child's education. Volunteers will begin in the Building F cafeteria for coffee and our guest speaker, Julie Chin. After the presentation, volunteers will travel to their child’s building to help in their classroom. Volunteers will work in classes from 9:00-9:30 a.m. As a reminder anyone who plans to come and volunteer at school needs to complete the Volunteer Confidentiality Training. Those volunteering will either need to pre-register on School Safe or check-in in the lobby when they arrive. Be on the lookout for the pre-registration link coming soon.

Santa Westly

Project Westly- Each December, Jenks West Elementary and Jenks West Intermediate families and staff help members of our school community who are in financial need by providing holiday gifts to each child in their family. We call this program "Project Westly." Each building will have a holiday tree set up in the lobby with tags listing out items to purchase for children. Permission slips for your child to pick a tag, to help those in need, from the Project Westly Holiday Tree will be sent home on November 4th. Students who bring back the permission slip will be able to start picking tags during the week of November 18-22. More information will be coming home soon explaining the process and due dates.

Learner Profile Attribute of the Month: Principled- In September we kick off the trait of PRINCIPLED: I act with integrity, honesty and with a strong sense of fairness. I take responsibility for my own actions and the consequences that go with them.

“Stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone.. Never be afraid to do what’s right.”

- Martin Luther King Jr.

This is a great time to prompt students to think about how they are fair, how they tell the truth and how they do the right thing even when no one is watching.

IB Update- This week our site has undergone an evaluation visit from the IB. This is part of a 5-year cycle of continuous reflection and growth in the Primary Years Program. We are excited to celebrate all the ways our site has grown over the last 5 years, and plan for further development moving forward. Here are 5 ways to support the PYP at home.

New Gate Information- We would like to provide an update about an important campus improvement project aimed at enhancing safety by reducing non-school traffic during the school day.

Automatic gates are being installed on the north end of Adams St. (just south of 91st St.). Once the project is completed, these gates will be closed during the school day to restrict access. The gates will remain open during drop-off and pick-up times to maintain regular traffic flow. Families will still be able to access West Intermediate and West Elementary during the day by approaching from Main Street. The gates can be programmed to remain open for high-traffic events like musicals, assemblies, or other family events. The gates will remain open after school hours and on weekends. It is important to note, the road between West Intermediate and West Elementary is a school drive, not a city street.

The extension of Maybelle Avenue will result in an increase in non-school traffic, raising safety concerns. The automatic gates will help JPS manage traffic while school is in session. The gates will also be equipped with a system to ensure quick access for emergency vehicles.

The gates will affect visitor and parent traffic during the school day. When the gates are closed, access to Building D at West Elementary and West Intermediate will only be available from Main Street. More information will be shared once a date is set for when the gates will become active. We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses. Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our campuses safe!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
