JWE Family Author’s Night- Mark your calendars for our upcoming JWE Author’s Night, on Tuesday, April 1, featuring Oklahoma author Hannah Harrison. She will be sharing her whimsical books that illustrate the power of kindness. Local music superstar Hot Toast will be hosting a family dance party with his goofy songs and wild beats. This event will be a celebration of words and a really good time with your kids. Come learn and dance with your JWE friends!

For more information on our incredible Family Night, as well as how to purchase a Hannah Harrison book signed by the author herself, check out the links below! If your family is planning to attend the event, please fill out this JWE Author's Night Sign Up Link—it’s not required, but it will help us better estimate the number of attendees. Testing in Third and Fourth Grade- In April, students will be participating in the Oklahoma State Testing Program (OSTP). Please give your child every advantage by following these guidelines:

·        A good night’s rest and breakfast either at home or before school.

·         On time arrival for school  (by 8:20 a.m.). No classroom entry after testing has begun.

·         Avoid checkouts for appointments, lunch, etc.

·         If possible, send a water bottle with your child.

Learner Profile Attribute of the Month: Communicator

In March, we will focus on being communicators. Students who are COMMUNICATORS are able to think and communicate in more than one language. They can express their ideas by speaking, drawing and writing. They can also communicate using mathematical language and symbols.

How can parents help to develop students who are Communicators at home? Encourage your child to stay in touch with relatives and friends who live in other countries by writing letters, using the phone or sending email. Ask your child thought provoking questions and encourage them to discuss them with you. For example:

  • What would you do if you were scared of someone at school?

  • Is there anything you cannot buy with money?

  • Should you get an allowance? Why or why not?

  • Work with your child to improve his/her listening skills. Being a good listener is an important part of communicating with others.

Have a wonderful day!
